What to Expect from Comic Con 2014

Just in case you forgot, we thought it might be good to remind readers that over 15,000 people are arriving in San Diego this week for Comic Con 2014, which started today. So what can the varied mass of gamers, comics fans, and amateur and professional cosplayers look forward to this week? We’ve put together a quick list below.

For all you Halo fans out there, today is the first look at Halo: Nightfall, a live-action digital series written by Paul Scheuring (Prison Break) and directed by Sergio Mimican-Gezza (Battlestar Gallactica). Nightfall will not be immersed in the Halo universe, but some of its lead characters will be available in the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians. Before Comic Con, the only character revealed was Agent Locke (played by Mike Colter), but the panel will announce the main cast and crew (who will be present at the panel) as well as plot and production.

Aside from Halo, Capcom will be releasing some exciting new updates for its new and upcoming releases. The Capcom staff members will discuss games including Ultra Street Fighter IV (June 2014), Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (2015), Dead Rising 3 (PC release, September 2014), and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy (Winter 2014). Comic Con states there might be a surprise or two—possibly a new game in the works (a new Resident Evil?) or a special guest? Guess we’ll just have to find out!

On Friday, Katsuhiro Harada, director of the Tekken series, will be holding a panel about Tekken and his upcoming release. So far, there seem to be no leaks yet on what the new announcement will be, aside from the already-announced Tekken 7. Harada claims that he’s been hard at work on some new titles not associated with either of his popular franchises. Harada said the new title will be a fighting game, but other than that, the title is a complete mystery.

Like Harada, the Marvel Games team will hold a panel on its current titles, ranging from Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes to X-Men: Battle of the Atom, and its future releases. Don’t get your hopes up for an Avengers video game; it seems like there won’t be one any time soon, according to TQ Jefferson, Marvel’s Vice President of Production Games.

Last but not least, Blizzard’s booth on Saturday will have Duncan Junes, the director of the World of Warcraft movie and Moon, for an exclusive signing. As for news on the film itself, producer Thomas Tull claimed it will be centered around two factions rather than on particular characters. Warcraft will be released on March 11, 2016.
