Moto X OTA update Announced for Verizon Wireless

Breaking news from Motorola just came in today, conveniently after posting our review on the AT&T and Verizon versions of the  Moto X. The much anticipated Moto X OTA update for Verizon Wireless is currently rolling out with improvements to the camera software, Touchless Control, Moto Migrate, Moto Care, and call quality. The enhancements made a major difference in quality of camera shots and usability of the smartphone during our review of the AT&T model, so early adopters of the Moto X on Verizon Wireless should be pleasantly surprised to finally receive the update. AT&T and other carriers such as T-Mobile and Sprint had already had updates move forward. For the full run down, check out Motorola’s press release  below.

Software Update for Moto X by Motorola

INTRODUCTION

We are pleased to announce a new software update for Moto X by Motorola. The software update (139.15.1.ghost_verizon.Verizon.en.US.  ) includes numerous enhancements that will make your Moto X work even better. For more information on Motorola updates and repairs, visit us at www.motorola.com/mymotox.

NOTE: You cannot downgrade to the original software (139.10.53.ghost_verizon.Verizon.en.US) after installing this update.

DETAILED ENHANCEMENTS

This software update is available for all Moto X Verizon users. After installing the software update you will notice numerous improvements and changes, including:

Camera – Improved Photo Quality Improved capture of natural light (auto-white balance) and color accuracy for more precise exposure in outdoor and backlit scenes
Camera – Improved Focus Faster touch to focus time and reduced unnecessary refocusing in low light conditions and scenes with continuous motion
Camera – Faster Switching Shortened the time it takes to switch between rear and front-facing cameras, as well as transition between the viewfinder and the Gallery app
Enhanced Touchless Control Increased accuracy and responsiveness when using Touchless Control, and added easier training of the “OK Google Now” trigger
Improved Motorola Migrate Experience Improved transfer of content from an old Android phone to a new Motorola phone
Google Drive – 50GB Promotion Added a promotion expiration date – customers have 30 days from phone activation or installation of this update to redeem the 50GB offer
Calling – Improved Voice Quality Fixed an issue that could sometimes result in choppy audio being heard by the person you’re talking with on your Moto X
Moto Care – Lost Device Finder Fixed an issue that could sometimes prevent a lost phone from reporting its location to the Moto Care Lost Device Finder service
Motorola Assist – Driving Detection Fixed an issue that could sometimes cause the phone to read out text messages and announce calls when not in Drive mode

INSTRUCTIONS

For a successful installation, we recommend installing this update when the battery in your phone is at least 50% charged and you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.

If you have received a notification message for this update:

  1. Select “Download”.
  2. After the software is downloaded, select “Install now”.
  3. After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.
  4. Your phone is now updated with 139.15.1.ghost_verizon.Verizon.en.US.

If you have not received a notification message for this update, follow the steps below to manually update your phone:

  1. Select the Settings icon in the apps menu.
  2. Select “About phone”.
  3. Select “System updates”.
  4. Select “Download”. After the software is downloaded, select “Install”.   
  5. After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.
  6. Your phone is now updated to 139.15.1.ghost_verizon.Verizon.en.US.
